Description:

Murray Contractors was selected as the Construction Manager for the renovation of the Arkansas State Capitol Café now dubbed the Natural State Cafe, a project that required both technical expertise and a deep respect for the historic setting. Following a fire in the spring of 2024, the café and adjoining spaces were left in need of extensive restoration. When Murray Contractors was brought on board in September 2024, the team was given just over 90 days to return the space to full operation before the 2025 legislative session, an accelerated schedule that demanded precise planning and exceptional coordination.

The project included the complete reconstruction of a full commercial kitchen, along with the renovation of the public dining area, which feature historic design reflecting the character of the State Capitol. This required careful integration of modern building systems, durable materials, and all new food service equipment while preserving the architectural integrity and traditional aesthetic of the space.

Working within an active and highly visible government building, the Murray team meticulously sequenced construction activities, maintained strict safety and security protocols, and collaborated closely with state officials, design partners, and specialty trades. Despite the compressed schedule, the team delivered a fully restored and operational café and dining environment that honors the historic significance of the Capitol while supporting efficient, modern food-service operations.

The completed project stands as a testament to Murray Contractors’ ability to meet urgent timelines, navigate complex renovation challenges, and deliver high-quality results in landmark facilities.
